Why Indians are not building tech platforms ?

I wonder why Indian’s are not building technologies ?, why they are not inventing new tech platforms ? Why we are just consuming already made platforms/tech ?

Now it gives me no wonder (and even no excitement) when i see a a story onYourStory.in or Pluggd.in etc about a new e-commerce platform or new way to do payments. [Believe me i’m not against these guys, but]

But what about inventions with larger vision or scope ? Come on’ Guys when we will invent platform so that other can use. Will our invention’s be only in Google India Labs or Microsoft Labs (to say Invisible Innovation) ?

If we build tech platform’s we are in a long run process (and mostly profitable) but if otherwise we will loose charm sooner or later. Also we will restrict our future possibilities.

Take an example of Facebook, what if facebook would have limited itself to simple profile’s only and not released its News Feed, Apps and APIs ?

Again take an example of Google, Why it’s still so sexy ? Reason i see is set of platform it’s providing, And believe me its only due to its strong platform that they can launch and test big project like Google Buzz, Google+ or Google Glasses everyday.

So is India completely tech less ? No, InterviewStreet is awesome and it’s in a long race. And why so ? Because they have invented some sound platform and isn’t it awesome that companies like Facebook, Microsoft etc. are using it. (There are few other startup’s also)

Considering the case of Flipkart, they are awesome but on their 1’st day they sold an item and still ONLY selling. They are not building any platform for users (like some apps, social shopping or online consuming). Creating a platform around its sells, may add 10-20 years of charm to Flipkart.

What can be the reasons ? [I’m not an expert but]

Are we afraid of long race ? Is entrepreneurship a sexy synonym of Money/Fame for Indians ? Are investor’s afraid of investing in tech products ?

I recently started a project called Visifoo (Currently halted. Need to Pivot) which is my try to build a platform to assist you find correct/suitable answers online. A lot of technology is involved in making of this and still i’m trying to figure out on various aspects, but i’m not afraid and ready to go long race to complete it.

[When i talked to some entrepreneur’s about Visifoo they asked, “So how will you make money out of it ?”, when i talked to some investor’s they asked, “So who is using it ? Once you launch and get user attraction come to us, we will invest.”]

But there are few (awesome) people who told me, “Hey, you are making a good platform, it would take time to build it but all you need to do right now is to build it, we will figure out its business model later.” And it inspired me to continue on the product.

So this is my call to Indians out there, to have a strong stand in technology we need to invent tech platforms. Come out of this 1st day earnings mentality.

Anyhow i believe, Business can be made on Technology but vice-versa(I’m bit confused)

Also to do business you need to be full-time but to invent technologies you can work along way and once you are ready with your tech product you can grow a business easily.
